All:
We are putting together a field trip for April. Originally I was going to have a butterfly garden program where we create a raised bed and plant butterfly loving plants down at the BCA park. Once the BCA property and its status was in flux I decided to postpose this program and may raise it up again in time and in conjunction with the BCA at the Strawberry Festival. We will wait and see. SSSOOOOO: Tuesday, April 2nd, BGC is going to visit Phipps. We will leave the BCA at 9:30 so PLEASE BE at BCA parking lot AT 9:15. We will carpool. We will plan to arrive by 10am. We will view the Spring Flower Show, then eat at their cafe. At 1pm we will take the tour of the Phipps Center for Sustainability Landscapes. The BGC will pay for members' admission and lunch. Please RSVP to me---- [email protected] or 412-247-4129. Below is more info on the day's events. Spring Flower Show: March 9-April 7, 2013 Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved children’s classic, The Secret Garden, comes to life with color, fragrance and seasonal blooms. CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPES: The future of green has arrived! One of Earth’s greenest buildings is now open for you to visit. Learn how you can take a docent-led tour and be among the first to explore this inspiring new addition to Phipps. Sustainable architecture and landscape design are taking giant steps forward at Phipps with the new Center for Sustainable Landscapes: an innovative model of sustainability for architects, scientists, planners and anyone interested in greener living. In generating all of its own energy, and treating and reusing all of water captured on site, this dynamic education, research and administration facility is expected to operate as efficiently as a flower. And, designed and built by Pennsylvanians to meet or exceed the world’s three highest green standards—the Living Building Challenge, LEED® Platinum and Sustainable Sites Initiative SITES™ certification for landscapes—this addition is now part of our guest experience.
