Wednesday, Feb 24, 2016: Landscaping in Deer Country
12:00 noon, BCA
The BGC invites members, friends, and neighbors to our free program: Socialize at 12:00 noon; enjoy a light lunch at 12:30 PM; and listen to our presenter, Penn State Master Gardener Dianne Machesney, at 1:00 PM.
What can gardeners do to discourage deer from destroying our gardens? Ms Machesney will discuss facts about deer browsing and will highlight solutions to mitigate damage to our landscaping. She will also recommend a number of deer-resistant plants for Western Pennsylvania residents to incorporate into their borders and beds.
Please contact Marlene Dolecki at [email protected] or 412-841-5005 for reservations, further information, or if you would like a ride to the meeting. Several members have offered to drive.
We are also asking members to please make a monetary donation (typically the cost of a nice bottle of wine or spirits) to cover the cost of our Drink and Dine benefit raffle prize. Please give your donation to Marlene at the February 24th meeting, or make arrangements to drop off or mail the donation to her. Thank you!!!

Wed, May 18, 2016: Annual, Not-To-Be-Missed, Plant Auction
7:00 PM, BCA
Do. Not. Miss. It.
This wild and wooly Blackridge event rolls around every May with neighbors sharing wealth with neighbors. Spreading perennials, rooted clippings, shrub sprouts, and seedlings are auctioned off in a gleeful spree. Bring your friends and relatives, and, of course, donations from your garden, if you can. Come with dimes and dollars—or a check if you prefer to keep a running tally of your purchases and pay only once. It’s also suggested that you bring a basket, box, or empty flat in which to carry your purchases. If you have any questions, please give Auctioneer Ceil Greber a call at 412-247-5828.
Ceil will be collecting plant donations at the BCA at 6:00 PM, or you may drop off contributions to Ceil (412-247-5828) in advance of the date, if that is more convenient for you. Any and all contributions are much appreciated. When possible, please identify plant material and indicate special needs such as sun or shade and approximate height.
